Giving Thanks Every Day

Albert Einstein was not only a genius, but a man who seemed to embrace each day with gratitude and a thankful heart. He is credited with saying “There are only two ways to live your life, one is as though nothing is a miracle, the other is as if everything is.” What a wonderful way to approach every day.

Thanksgiving is the perfect holiday as it gives us time to reflect on everything that we are thankful for.  We gather together with friends and loved ones and share all that we are thankful for. What if this year, we use Thanksgiving as the catalyst to consciously give thanks every day?

Many people keep a gratitude log and jot down five things that they are grateful for each day. It’s amazing what we can be thankful for – from the basics such as health and a roof over our heads which not everyone in this world has.
Other ways include:

Saying thank you more often 
It’s amazing how someone thanking you can make their day that much brighter. Take time to express gratitude to your friends, your family, your colleagues, clients and those you meet on a day-to-day basis.

Volunteering
Volunteering can help you to appreciate all that you have, especially when helping those in need. In fact, research by BMC Public Health found that people who volunteer on a regular basis are less likely to become depressed.

Revel in the natural world 
Going for a walk in the woods or spending an evening stargazing reminds you of the wonder of the world around us. It helps remind us how thankful we are to live on such a wonderous planet.

Be mindful 
Mindfulness is very popular these days and for good reason. Being mindful is about living in each moment. Being grateful for all the little things from that hot cup of coffee you just drank, to the new vase you bought for your home, to the phone call you just had with a loved one. Being mindful helps us to appreciate and be thankful for everything that we have.
