Renovation trends for 2018
December 22, 2017 |
If you’re planning on renovating your home in 2018 then you may be interested to know that Houzz, the home design website, have revealed what they believe are going to be the hottest design trends for the year.
Mixing and blending materials
We’ve seen this trend increase in popularity, especially in kitchens and according to Vanessa Walker, Houzz Australia and New Zealand editor it will continue to be popular in 2018. Think wood and marble together or different types of wood. Personally,
we love this. It removes the constraints of having to find a sideboard in the same wood as your coffee table. After all, a forest is made up of many types of trees so why wouldn’t the same principle apply in your home?
Emphasis on joinery
The little touches count and 2018 is predicted to be the year of the handle. From kitchen cabinet handles to door handles, you’ll be on trend if you make a statement with elaborate and personality-packed joinery –especially large, oversized timber knobs.
Mad for metallic
Metallic will be big again in 2018 but this time the star of the show is predicted to be brass. think finishing touches such as drapery hardware to coat stands to coffee tables.
Making a comeback a few times already, that mid-century favorite, the drinks cart is yet again going to prove popular. Better get those cocktail making skills down pat!
Houzz says that the love for handmade will continue with an emphasis on tribal patterns. Think handcrafted fabric wall hangings, bold floor coverings and hand blocked prints. Anything that doesn’t look like it came off of an assembly line. Good news
if you’re into up-cycling.
.. and individual touches
Individual touches will also be big in 2018 with the handmade look spilling over into a relaxation in general. Goodbye stylized conformity, hello quirky, expressive touches.
What do you think? Will you be embracing the hottest trends of 2018?
